Abstract
Gottlieb first discusses courses for subtitlers as they will be organized by the Copenhagen University Center for Translation Studies. Next, he points out the constraints and virtues of subtitling and views the concepts of equivalence and authenticity from the perspective of subtitling. In the following paragraph, he explains the parameters important in a subtitling course, and stresses the cross-cultural aspect inherent in subtitling. Furthermore, he advances a typology of translation, based on a time factor. The article is rounded off with a defence of the reductive nature of subtitling.
