Abstract

This chapter reports on the findings of a study that investigates the effectiveness of community of inquiry (CoI) as a framework in designing online interpreter-training programs. More specifically, the study used a CoI survey developed by Arbaugh et al. (2008) as a research instrument to examine and compare the learning experiences of interpreting students. The findings indicate that the students’ perceptions of social, cognitive, and teaching presences were high and that a community of inquiry successfully developed in online learning as well as face-to-face learning.
