Abstract
This chapter presents an online course in Brazilian Sign Language for translators and interpreters (Letras Libras) and the technologies applied: online, DVD, videoconferences, and video classes. It discusses the educational development strategies of the program, highlighting the principles of ‘Deaf gain’. It also illustrates how Letras Libras has had a great impact on the status of Brazilian Sign Language and has fostered further research in the field of Deaf studies, translation and interpretation.
