Abstract

The cultural practice of translating comics has for a long time been disregarded in research. This book is the result of the first international conference on the topic and adopts an interdisciplinary perspective. Both phenomena are understood as developments of the same transcoding process, which can be analyzed separately, but are at the same time interconnected. The 21 contributions in German or English present theoretical approaches and case studies on unusual types of adaptation and translation. They analyze correlations between literature and comics, as well as the influence of various participants on translation, and also comment upon special types such as topical comics and manga.
