This article is about the translocation of the superheroes in the English television series MISFITS (2009-2013), which takes away the protagonists from their familiar surroundings in several respects. Superheroes are transferred from their traditional ‘hometown’, the American metropolis, to the fictitious quarter Wertham in the East End of London. Alisha, Curtis, Kelly, Nathan and Simon clearly distinguish themselves from their American counterparts. Instead of using their superpowers for the greater good, these juvenile offenders have other interests, such as alcohol, drugs and sex. From a translational point of view, MISFITS exemplifies an intersemiotic transfer from comic book to television series, not based on a single model but rather on a specific type of characters relocated to a new environment. This way it becomes possible to examine to what extent the differences with American superheroes are a result of the switch to another environment.
