Abstract

This section presents part of the text Discours sur Homère, written by Antoine Houdar de la Motte and published in 1714. The fragment was translated in Dutch by H.Bloemen. In this text, Houdar de la Motte presents his three key principles for translation: precision, clarity, and attractiveness. He justifies the choices he has made in his translation of the Iliad, in which he reduced the number of volumes, and changed the order and content of the original.
