Abstract
This paper reports on a study revealing some of the problems in Flanders in interpreted health care situations. In order to get an idea about issues and dilemmas in health care interpretation in Flemish Sign Language, a survey was carried out among active sign language interpreters. The respondents mentioned basic legal, financial and practical issues, but also more challenging relational issues, the role of the interpreter from different perspectives and a number of ethical dilemmas.
