Abstract

This chapter puts forward the use of a linguistic analysis model that fits for the purpose of identifying specialised texts, in order to produce them adequately. It can also be useful as a teaching method to introduce students into translation and interpreting skills in specific areas such as healthcare. The model proposed focuses on two German hospital discharge reports that present the common structure of the so called ‘clinical history’. It mainly consists of applying a set of text classification and revision criteria to detect crucial elements in the source text and to apply the equivalents in the target text. As such, the linguistic analysis model enables to approach the essential characteristics of a specialised text and to transfer them to the target text following the requirements of the micro and macrostructure.
