Diego López de Cortegana's translation of Apuleius' Asinus aureus has seen many editions since the beginning of the 16th century (the last one in 1988). After comparing it with other early European translations, the author compares López de Cortegana's text with the ten Spanish translations dating from the 20th century.The latter's translation is also analyzed within the framework of translating in 15th- and 16th-century Spain.
