When Joan Sales took over the direction of El Club dels Novel·listes in 1959 he launched a new editorial policy that broke with postwar Catalan cultural norms. His suggestive, personal criteria were applied both to translations and original texts written in Catalan. Sales himself translated novels by Flaubert, Mauriac, Delluc, Kazantzaki and Dostoievski. As he did not know modern Greek or Russian, his El Crist de nou crucificat and Els germans Karamàzov were based on other translations. Ferran Canyameras and Joan Fuster also contributed indirect translations to the collection.
