Abstract

This chapter describes an undergraduate course in the United States that introduces students to the field of audiovisual translation (AVT). The course is divided into three units: history/theory, a subtitling practicum, and a dubbing practicum. The first introduces AVT and lays the historical and theoretical groundwork upon which students can become translators. The last two parts strive to bring theory to bear on practice through small projects that involve hands-on subtitling and dubbing.
