This chapter describes a course that explores the relations between translation studies and the study of folklore. The focus is on the translation and adaptation of verbal folklore materials. Several objectives guide the instruction: to locate parallels between practices and principles in the two fields, to uncover ethical issues and to examine the concept of genre in the two fields.
