Abstract

This chapter describes a course for graduate students and advanced undergraduates that explores the centrality of translation to knowledge production across the humanities and social sciences. Assigned readings are drawn from anthropology, history, linguistics, literary theory, philosophy, legal and political theory, and sociology, along with translation studies. Taken together, the readings present an overview of the issues at stake in translating such material, issues that are at once theoretical and practical, linguistic and historical.
