Abstract

The translator's study of a foreign language should be focused on those aspects of the text relevant to the translation: in particular, the actual signalling devices and style of the text. The most readily agreed upon methods of text analysis are, therefore, those which, in accordance with the field of translation theory used, focus on the aforementioned aspects, especially upon their linguistic restrictions. Thus, analysing the foreign language from the constrastive, textual point of view can enable the future translator to understand and assimilate that language.
