Abstract
The article constitutes a commentary on the different 'translations' of this work into French and German between 1700 and 1930. For instance, the first translation, by Galland (1707-1717), includes new tales, which afterwards were retranslated into other European languages and Arabic. The article also dwells on ideological shifts.
