Abstract
In Antwerp in September 2000 the start of a pilot project was announced to arrive at professional and better qualified LIT. This project, the effective result of the EU Grotius project and the King Boudouin project, as started with the support of the Minister of Justice. From 2001 on , before the Antwerp, every candidate's language proficiency is screened in both Dutch and the foreign language(s) before s/he is admitted to the course consisting of judicial procedures and structures, police, language proficiency, translation, interpretatiion, code of conduct and professional good practice, leading up to a final test before s/he can become a certified or sworn LIT. In June 2001 there was the first promotion. On the basis of the first experience, a second year of the pilot project will start.
