Abstract
Public Service or Community Interpreters work in a unique context within the general field of interpreting. The multiple pressures on them are not the same as those faced by other kinds of interpreters and are stepmotherly discussed. The aim of this paper is to consider the role of PSIs within the greater context of their work and to raise the concept of interpreters as human beings, i.e. creatures with emotions.
