Abstract

This article is a summary of the differences between Lederer/Delisle/Seleskovitch's interpretative (Paris) school and Neubert/Beaugrande/van Dijk's text-linguistic approach. The interpretative model "is based on the opposition between textual compatibility and the incompatibility of the language systems" putting source and target texts on the same footing. Text-linguistics, on the other hand, advocates thorough analysis and stresses the importance of genre.
