Abstract

This article proposes a reconceptualization of problems in translation, using the PACTE Group’s rich point model as a methodological framework. Based on a conglomeration of interrelated problem indicators, namely pre-translation mark-up of anticipated problems, concrete problem indicators evidenced in screen recordings, and errors in corresponding translations, this reconceptualization is grounded in both process and product data. The model being proposed here suggests that holistic problem awareness hinges on insight gleaned from all problem indicators as a collective. The chapter concludes with the discussion of a small-scale pilot study that explores how these problem indicators overlap and diverge in establishing the “bigger picture” of problems in translation.
