The number and size of parallel corpora is growing fast and they are beginning to be recognized as powerful tools that can be used in various types of linguistic research; they can provide a new impetus to contrastive linguistics, to translation studies, and to typological research, but at the same time offer a new perspective on mono-linguistic studies.
