Abstract

Translating proper names can be challenging and yet, it is by no means a marginal practice. This book presents a synthesis on the issue of translating proper names, from German into French in particular. It proposes a conceptual classification of proper names into four main categories (anthroponyms, toponyms, ergonyms, pragmonyms) and gives instructions as for their translation, information, syntax as well as explanations regarding their evolution.
