Clancy, Joseph P., ed. 1999. Other words: essays on poetry and translation. Cardiff: University of Wales Press. 146 pp.

Abstract

In this collection of related essays Joseph Clancy reflects on his experience of the interaction between writing and translating poetry, explores the nature of translation through examples from his own work and presents an outsider’s perspective on the literature of Wales in both its languages. His comparative study of Ann Griffiths and Emily Dickinson, in particular, is an example of cross-cultural criticism. Other Words offers observations on a variety of Welsh works and authors and on the creative process, national identity, and the value of cultural encounters and exchanges.
