Abstract

This paper constitutes an approach to Fernando Pessoa's activity as a translator throughout his life and throughout his literary career. Both aspects lead to the acknowledgement of Pessoa's dedication to translation as a profession, on the one hand, and as a phenomenon tightly connected with essential elements of his literature, such as his full command of both English and Portuguese languages and his inclination to heteronymy, on the other. After analysing these parameters, this article offers a collection of texts by Pessoa translated from their source languages (Portuguese and English) in which translation is viewed in itself as an object of intellectual reflection.
