The aim of this article is to analyse the way clichés are used in comic strips (mainly Asterix and Tintin) and how they are translated into English. The authors use the clichés in a humorous way, thus modifying their content according to their needs and the necessities of the context, including the drawings. Translators are thus faced with a difficult challenge. The solutions they have chosen are analysed through a number of significant examples which prove that they can be as creative as the authors.
