Abstract

This article considers various methodological issues concerning multimedia translation. It starts with an explanation of a concepts and terminology related to multimedia translation. The second section describes the four steps of the multimedia production process, being the pre-production phase, the concept and development phase, the production phase and the post-production phase. The third section describes typical multimedia and translational phenomena, such as the different types of verbal translation, the different times at which translation occurs and verbal vs. non-verbal translation. The fourth section looks into the question whether multimedia translation can be considered a specific discipline. Section 5 broaches the issue of localisation vs. globalisation. In the conclusion the author urges for new types of collaboration: on the level of scientific research, on the level of education, and training and on the level of MM production.
