This chapter deals with a seemingly new phenomenon – the comeback of the Translator’s Note. The two main questions are: (1) Is there a difference between the new TN and the classical ‘apologetic’ TN? (2) Does the new TN represent a new translator’s voice, that is, reflect a change in the translator’s self-image? This chapter is therefore an attempt to determine whether the increase in TNs implies an improvement in the translator’s status and if so, whether this improvement has an impact on his/her self-esteem.
