Abstract

After the Sino-Japanese war of 1898, the Qing government adopted the Japanese approach to introduce more western knowledge to create the two-side model of direct translation and indirect translation, marking an unprecedented golden age for translation in China. Compared with traditional literature, the western works are more popular than light literature such as political, detective and fiction stories. These western literatures occupied an important place in the translation world at that time, exerting a far-reaching influence on Chinese literature.
