Abstract
Together with the Brazilian poets of the Noigandres group, Gomringer (b.1925) was one of the pioneers of the international concrete poetry movement. Like his Brazilian contemporaries, his poetry is marked by a multilingual ethos. Drawing on Gomringer’s manifestos and the essays collected in the volume, Admirador (2012) , this chapter considers the trans-linguistic and multimedia nature of his work, distinguishes between the concept of ‘constellation’ and that of ‘ideogram’ in concrete poetics and seeks to understand the purposes of a poetry that transcends national, linguistic and cultural boundaries, an objective form designed to act as a ‘global’ poetry.
