Abstract
This article reports on the NewMedia Project from the Translations Department affiliated to the American Bible Society. The project’s aim is to produce experimental multimedia translations of biblical texts. To date, six video translations have been completed; the first three released on CD-ROM, the rest is or will be released on the internet. The team based its translation approach on functionalist theory and researched the linguistic, paralinguistic and extra-linguistic parameters pertaining to the translation. The article gives a description of some of the work to date, how the team first translates a sacred text and then produces a context for the text on the web.
