Abstract

In this paper, the authors aim to discuss the impact of organizational design on screen translation quality. Their experience is that to ensure good quality, a focus on the following variables is required: criteria for the recruitment of translators, methods for on-the-job training, continuing training, and revising and editing translators. Other factors affecting the translation quality are naturally the general working conditions, and other organizational factors and management. The structure of the paper is as follows: first a brief description of the authors’ organization and the work they do is given, followed by an outline of the development their translation department has undergone in the past ten years. Then a discussion follows on the authors’ views on translation quality and quality assurance, and an account of their methods of quality assurance, summarized as six steps of action.
