Abstract
Language Line Services has developed a program that incorporates a holistic approach to interpreter certification. This paper provides a general overview of the program, as well as an in-depth analysis of test design and structure. Additionally, the paper examines the structure of similar consecutive interpreting tests as a comparative study. Language Line Services tests were developed in three different industries (medical, court and insurance) to be used in conjunction with training and observation to qualify interpreters to take calls for these industries. While this paper analyzes data from the court test, the other two tests followed a similar pattern.
