Abstract
The article focuses on four issues. First of all, it describes basic features of audiovisual translation -which is better studied than the translation of adverts. This first topic defines the public who will read the article: Translation Studies students and researchers. The second issue describes some idiosyncratic features of Spanish culture which must be taken into account when translating adverts from other cultures and languages. The third issue is to present a classification for adverts taking into account the translation and adaptation difficulties. In a final instance, through the analysis of some examples, the article analyses translation problems and suggests possible solutions.
