Krake, Astrid. 2000. How art produces art: Samuel Richardsons Clarissa im Spiegel ihrer deutschen Übersetzungen [How art produces art: Samuel Richardson's Clarissa and its German translations] (Münsteraner Monographien zur Englischen Literatur 23). Bern: Peter Lang. ix + 417 pp.

Abstract

This book compares German translations of Samuel Richardson’s novel Clarissa (1747-48). It traces the different stages of the translation process, from the original via French mediation to the German translation and looks into the working methods and conditions of the translators in question. The study includes references to theoretical and sociological aspects of literary life in the anglophile 18th century.
