Abstract
This chapter has two aims: firstly, to offer a review of the main attempts at historicising the gender and translation transdiscipline; and secondly, to initiate a discussion of the translation and feminism interface—i.e. a complementary perspective on both the relevance of feminism for translation studies and the relevance of translation for feminist studies. The basic idea is to propitiate a discussion on and foster a closer alliance between feminism and translation as an advantageous way for both disciplines to make progress. The idea of “Europe” and of a “European factor” in gender and translation studies will also be brought to bear on these pages.
