Abstract
Having situated A-B translation in its rightful place within our discipline, this third chapter intends to situate the debate in the professional world of translation. To this end, it begins with a brief reflection on professional translation, and continues with
comments on the situation of A-B translation within the translation market in Spain and in other nearby countries. In this context, the chapter addresses the special case of English as a target language in A-B translation, given its status as the lingua franca of our era. It concludes with an outline of those factors which intervene in the translator's decision to carry out A-B work professionally or not, which may be classified into four categories:market-related factors; text type factors; translation status related factors; and factors relating to individual ethics. It is important to underline that these factors constitute issues worth debating for B-A and other directions in translation, and not exclusively for A-B. [Source: BITRA]
