The interpretation of anaphora is crucial for the successful operation of a Machine Translation (MT) system. In particular, it is essential to reslove the anaphoric relation when translating into languages which mark the gender of pronouns. The present article discusses the developments in anaphora resolution in the wider context of NLP.
