Abstract

This paper provides a beginner's introduction to translating the files that make up Web sites. It begins with an overview of HTML, the markup language that forms the foundation of Web site documents. It then shows how to identify the text to be translated in HTML files. The paper goes on to describe other types of files that a translator may receive, the tools and techniques that facilitate translation of these files, and special issues that may arise. In a final instance, this paper suggests some points to keep in mind when translators accept a Web site project, including how to determine price and timeframe and the information they should have before they begin.
