One of the key dimensions of emotion is its mode of manifestation. Whatever the mode of manifestation of emotion, it goes through a phase of “translation” between two different semiotic operations: on the one hand, that of the affect itself, and of the passional configurations which derive from it; on the other hand, that of the corporal imprints of emotion; between the two, a transposition, an intersemiotic translation. Body-actant mediation changes the semiotic nature of emotion, since it confers on it the possibility of being perceived and interpreted. It is precisely this mediation that socializes the affect by giving it a manifestation. The most accomplished form of this intersemiotic translation of emotions is acting out: This contribution will focus on three points: (1) How to account for semiotic transposition and bodily mediation between affective and action domains? (2) How acting out changes the conditions in which emotion is experienced and regulated? (3) In what way can this reflection about the articulation and translation between emotion and action lead to a reconsideration of the semiotic theory of narrativity?
