The chapter investigates linguistic worldviews emerging from the Polish metaphors used in EU parliamentary debate and from their English translations. Linguistic worldview is understood here as a multidimensional conception comprising the following: world-perceiving, world-conceiving, cultural mindset, personal world, and perspective. The analysis shows that the source text (ST) metaphors encoding conceptual patterns present in both Polish and English are translated with similar target text (TT) metaphors. Less conventional or “misused” ST metaphors are replaced with different TT metaphors or non-metaphors. It is argued that the translator accommodates the speaker’s worldview to the target receivers’ worldview, modifying the world-perceiving and world-conceiving dimensions in ST. The resultant “distortions” of the other dimensions affect the overall appeal of the original speech, with shifts in ideological and/or personal undertones in TT.
