Irony goes beyond the domains of linguistics or rhetoric and needs to be analyzed from a cognitive perspective in order to understand cross-cultural adaptation. The author's intention, as manifested in the source text, is basic to understand his communicative intention. Starting with this intention, the text lists a series of possible translation strategies providing the translator with a communicative model for his task.
