Abstract

This paper provides some insight into the question as to whether short interpreting training can be effective. It first gives a brief overview of interpreting in South Africa. Next, it briefly explains the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the recruitment and selection process for its interpreters. The training course and the evaluation of the effectiveness of the short training courses are also among the main topics.
