Abstract

This paper concentrates on French translations of the Liaozhai zhiyi and the Honglou meng in the nineteenth century. The author quotes a passage from David Hawke’s translation of the Honglou meng for the sake of contrast with three French translations – those by Guerne, Pao and Li/Alézaïs/d’Hormon.
