Abstract
The author deals with the shortages of community interpreting (health and courtroom alike) in Europe - especially in Germany - a field still to be given much more importance in the professional market and in university training. He then goes on to explain how the University of Magdeburg (Germany) is trying to meet this challenge through their Degree in Technical Translation and a project for a Master's Degree in Conference Interpreting. Both are characterised by their great flexibility, being made up of modules which are useful for both and likely to be taken depending on the students' needs and aptitudes.
