Abstract
The Japanese Patent Office (JPO) discloses English abstracts of Publications of Unexamined Patent Applications on its web site for viewing worldwide about four months after they are laid open to the public. The presenter has translated some of these. Suggestions will be presented for improving translation productivity by using Japanese-English dictionaries made by collecting words, expressions, and sentence structures appearing on the web in both languages. Moreover, instant recall of the source language and conversion to the target language will be discussed with a focus on terminology and differences in sentence structure. With machine translation unrealistic for patent translation for the time being, personal translation skills should be developed.
