This paper aims to give a review of empirical research in conference interpreting. The author points out the strengths and the weaknesses of work to date. He also outlines areas and problems still pending, categorizing them according to the methodological difficulties involved and encouraging young researchers to contribute. Issues discussed include phenomenological and ‘social’ limitations and constraints, opportunities, risks for beginners, some suggestions and other topics.
