Abstract

In this paper, the author sets out to describe the translation of film titles in Franco’s Spain (1939-75) and shows how censorship can be explicit and implicit under a dictatorship. In those days, the film industry used self-imposed censorship in line with the official Catholic morality to please the State Censorship Boards. The author sketches a historical overview of the situation and looks into the influence of the Catholic Church in particular.
