Abstract
This paper attempts to confront some of Levý’s theoretical assumptions regarding interpretation as a prerequisite for translation with some alternative views on interpretation which have come to the fore over the last few decades. In this attempt, the emphasis is put on the interpreter’s creative abilities and strategic insights enabling him to play an active part in translation as a game of appropriate decision-making.
