This article is an analysis of specialized terms in the German and Spanish language, taking as an example parts of motorcycle brakes. The topic was to compare the translations given in specialized dictionaries with those used by experts on the matter. 50 German terms of the brake system were selected and looked up in two technical and one general dictionary. These translations were confirmed with the help of Spanish experts, such as a teacher of mechanics, a repair mechanic and a mechanical engineer. The results include several comparative groups documented with numbers. With the study it could be demonstrated that there is a huge difference between the technical terms given in dictionaries and those used by experts.
