Abstract

According to the author, traditional discussions of ethics in Translation Studies have tackled a somewhat motley array of questions. On the whole, they have been primarily concerned with translators’ duties or with their rights. In this paper, the author suggests a different view of translation ethics, based not on the concepts of study or right, but that of value. The norms of clarity, truth, trust and understanding are looked into.
