Abstract

In this paper, the author makes use of a few examples to illustrate that not only for the purposes of translating, linguistic, cultural and subject-area knowledge are one and the same, but that this so-called knowledge base is in fact know-how, a process that is activated and adapted for each new translation task, i.e. text. Language for special purposes and term recognition, as well as concepts and cultural knowledge are among the issues discussed.
